Women's soccer makes program history

By Lily Barrett

The Stonehill College women’s soccer team played in its first-ever playoffs at the NCAA Division 1 level on Nov. 7.

On Oct. 27, the team defeated Mercyhurst 3-0 at W.B. Mason Stadium. With the win, they secured their spot in the Northeast Conference Playoffs and improved to an 8-9 overall record for the season. This would be their first time in the playoffs at the Division 1 level in program history.

“We’re ready and excited for the opportunity. We know what we are capable of and will give it everything we got!,” said Emmy Dumaresq, 5th-year captain.

They wrapped up their 2024 regular season play against Central Connecticut State University on Oct. 31 with a 2-2 draw. Stonehill played in the NEC Postseason Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 7, where they traveled to Washington, D.C. to take on Howard University.

Unfortunately, the Stonehill College women’s soccer 2024 campaign came to an end on the road.

In the NEC semifinal game, Stonehill fell to Howard University 2-1. With the loss, the Skyhawks ended their season with an 8-10-1 overall record, which is their best since the transition to the Division 1 level.

Although the game did not go their way, captain Emmy Dumaresq said, “Clinching playoffs means so much to us and the program. It’s our hard work paying off, and it proved a lot of people wrong, but most importantly it proved us right.”
