With their four years coming to an end, seniors are preparing to take the next step into their future.
One of the best places to start is the Career Development Center, where a number of resources are available, one school official said.
Andrew S. Leahy, director of the Career Development Center, said the center is committed to providing students with the resources to be prepared.
“Students come into the college center having a range in career readiness. Some know exactly what they want to do, and others are unsure. We allow students to go at their own pace and they will always leave with one or two action items,” Leahy said.
The college reports that within six months of graduating 90 percent of Stonehill students are employed, in graduate programs or engaged in postgraduate services.
Kylie Katz, who graduated in 2020, said Stonehill prepared her for getting into Southern University graduate school.
“Stonehill prepares students to have good communication skills. Stonehill prepared me to have a good advocation foundation to succeed in a high-level master’s program,” Katz said
The number of students using the Career Development Center have decreased since the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, 70-80% of students engaged with the college development center at least once. In the Fall semester of 2022, that dropped to only 33%. Leahy said the decline was due to the pandemic.
Leahy said those at the Career Development Center devotes time to understand students’ needs.
“We have weekly emails that shares what organizations are coming to campus. We try to collaborate with student clubs and organizations. If we go to their space first, they will be more willing to come see us,” Leahy said.
Ariel Goharzadeh, a senior, is in the process of applying for law school.
“I have begun applying to law school, and have even gotten into a couple of school. The Career Development Center helped me build my resume from scratch,” Goharzadeh said.
After graduating, alumni still have access to resume guidelines, proof-reading checklists, as well as access to recordings of Stonehill’s workshops.
On Feb. 12, the Career Development Center will be holding Senior Sunday, offering seniors post graduate essentials. Registration is available on Handshake.
