Stonehill athletes are competing in a school spirit-based contest, where they will get prizes as an incentive to cheer on their sports peers.
The Skyhawk Student-Athlete Games are a competition between all 21 varsity teams on at Stonehill, where points will be awarded towards a secret prize to the team with the most spirit.
Teams can also rack up points by doing community service and attending SAAC, athletic, and school-sponsored events.
The Stonehill Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has representatives who measure the teams’ engagement over the course of the week. Representatives fill out a form based on a team’s engagement in the community, then the points are added up and announced on a monthly leaderboard.
The form the representatives fill out is highly detailed, with many factors considered when awarding points. Those factors include the percentage of the team that attended other sporting events, community service, and how many people attended school-sponsored events.
Grace Murphy, the creator of the event, is hoping that this competition encourages student-athletes to support others while rewarding teams who go the extra mile.
“There is nothing better than stepping out onto the field, court, or ice, and seeing a crowd of people in the stands, especially when those members of the crowd are your peers and fellow student-athletes,” said Murphy.
Murphy is hopeful that this event will help build the Stonehill community and have a positive impact in the future of school spirit.
