The Stonehill Athletics office announced the resignation of women’s ice hockey head coach Tara Watchorn this morning.
Watchorn, who coached the Skyhawks for their inaugural season this past winter, will return to her alma mater Boston University.
The team has named Assistant Coach Megan Meyers as the interim head coach while an immediate search for a new head coach begins.
The women’s ice hockey team had a breakout season with Watchorn at the helm finishing third in conference and posting a 19-16-2 record.
“We are very appreciative of the new program Tara has built from the ground up during her time at Stonehill,” said Stonehill Athletic Director Dean O’Keefe in an official announcement of the resignation.
In Watchorn’s year at Stonehill, she built a substantial resume for herself winning NEWHA coach of the year as well as being a finalist for the AHCA coach of the year award.
In the official statement this morning, the school wished Watchorn well and thanked her for being a pioneer for the program and shaping its foundation for the future.
