Members of the Stonehill College community met in the Martin Auditorium tonight to watch as votes for the 2024 presidential election came in.
Many students, sporting “I Voted” stickers, watched closely as coverage of the night started to show votes being counted. The air was somewhat hopeful.
Julia Ciccolo '25 felt confident, since many people she knows voted in this election.
“I do feel hopeful, because I think a lot of people voted. A lot of the people I talked to voted,” said Ciccolo.
Ciccolo also cited the character of candidates as her most important factor in deciding who she would cast her vote for.
Zachary Dangel '25 on the other hand, felt worried about the potential outcome of the election based off the vote counts early in the night as Florida turned Republican.
“I think that democracy is at stake, and I think that if we have a Trump win, he is likely to try and reverse tradition and do whatever he wants,” Dangel said.
Charles Dwyer feels similarly about the gravity of this election. Dwyer is worried about the reaction to the election results.
“I feel like I am very nervous about this election, there is a lot of uncertainty because of the last election. People are more polarized than ever before. I feel like people are more likely to use violence to contest the way we do these elections,” said Dwyer.
