Laundry problems arise on campus

By Olivia Rotondo

Stonehill College students say they are frustrated with the limited and often faulty laundry facilities in their dorms.

With between one and five machines in each building, many students said they find it difficult to finish their laundry without delays.

“Very hard for people to use, especially athletes who all have games and practices,” said Kelsey Barber, ‘25.

Barber said some students leave their clothes in for extended periods of time.

“Difficult to have just one, especially when people let their clothes sit in the dryer without coming to get them,” Barber said.

Megan Monteiro, ‘25, said this affects students’ routines.

“We all have busy schedules, and it’s hard to have to rely on one washer to be available in order for us to get our laundry done— which is a step in our routines that helps maintain productivity for our week,” Monteiro said.

Julianna Percoco, ‘27, said she finds broken machines challenging machines.

“There are about two washing machines that I just have to avoid because every time I do my laundry with them, my clothes end up soaked in a pool of water. Some of these washing machines don’t drain the water, so I have to squeeze out my sopping wet clothes and towels before moving them over to the dryer and getting the entire laundry room floor wet.”

“This also elongates the entire laundry process because it takes much longer for sopping wet clothes to dry, especially considering the dryers aren’t that strong to begin with,” she said.
