Students' Housing Selection Concerns to be Solved by SGA

BY SARAH HERRING

If you are a resident on campus, choosing where to live is a big decision. That is why Stonehill’s Student Government Association is working to give first-year specific information regarding housing.

Housing offered to sophomores are Boland Hall, Corr Hall, O’Hara Trailers, Notre Dame Du Lac, Pilgrim Heights, and Pilgrim Heights Trailers

.

The class committee of 2026 plans to host informational sessions for freshmen to guide them through the process and give tours through the dorms.

The college reports that 90% of students choose to live on campus.

Sophomore Chloe Teller got her first choice for housing, a trailer in Pilgrim Heights, which is in high demand for incoming sophomores.

“I felt pretty prepared because of all the anticipation leading up to the selection of housing. It is a stressful process, but as long as you are on top of it, you will be successful with your outcome,” said Teller.

Sophomore Grace Faddoul differed from Teller’s. She felt unprepared going into housing selection.

“I felt lost in the process. My roommate and I ended up having different lottery numbers, so this made it more stressful. I felt like I didn’t have the proper instructions when it was my time to pick,” said Faddoul.

SGA Vice President, Grace Smrek said the information sessions come after a freshman town hall meeting.

First-year Hannah Tertrault considered all of her housing options for the following year but wishes Stonehill provided her with more resources.

“When I was at orientation we were under the impression that honors students roomed with other honor students and non-honors students roomed with each other. It was a confusing process,” Tertrault said.

The SGA First-year Class President and Vice president, Smrek, and Patrick Lynch, urge students to read the emails sent out and to reach out to Residence Life or SGA for more help.

For students that are not able to make SGA’s informational session, there will be recordings posted that are easily accessible on their website.
