Starting the school year off strong, the women’s soccer team won their first nonconference game on August 29, against Quinnipiac University, who defeated Stonehill 5-0 last fall.
This was a big win for the girls, as Quinnipiac won the MAAC Championship the past two seasons.
The conference games start this Thursday. If they want to make the postseason, they will need to finish in the top four of the 11 teams in the MAAC tournament.
Stonehill Women’s soccer player Kelsey Bello ’27 played goalkeeper and helped lead the team to victory, winning 1-0 against Quinnipiac.
Bello was part of the team when Stonehill lost to Quinnipiac last season and was pleased with the win.
“Everyone just came out and defended together as a team, which I think was the biggest difference. Everyone was on the same page and playing together,” she said.
Bello said the hardest part of the game was “communicating with everyone and just making sure everyone is on the same page, playing together, and really just being locked in regardless of the scoreboard or how much time is left on the clock.”
“I think the biggest takeaway from that win was a new standard was set, and we know what we are capable of now,” Bello said.
