Stonehill Alum “Dana Beers” Returns to Campus

BY DJ RANKINS

You may know him best by his Twitter handle, @danabeers. But to those at Stonehill, he is alumni, Dana Bahrawy.

On March 1, he returned to campus for the first time in person since he graduated, to speak at the Meehan School of Business for an event sponsored by the Marketing Management Association.

Bahrawy grew up Sandwich and majored in communications and minored in journalism at Stonehill. He now has more than 272,000 Twitter followers and is currently an editor and producer for Barstool Sports.

But his immense success didn’t come overnight.

“I did not find a job for a year out of school, until I took a free internship at Barstool.” he said.

That internship at Barstool ended up shaping his entire career.

After wrapping up the internship, he was hired as a producer, editor, and camera man and did that for three years, he said.

During his early years at Barstool, he promoted himself with the brand, “zillion beers”. As a result, he found a large social media following and sold $1.5 million in merchandise that raised money for charity.

This notoriety, and his production skills got the attention of NFL legend Deion Sanders, who was doing a documentary about his head coaching experience at Jackson State University.

“I spent a year in Jackson, Mississippi and spent every day with Deion Sanders and filming all of his moves,” he said. “It was an awesome experience, I do like taking a break from being on camera, and it was nice to be back into that life,” he said.

His newest project includes being one of the “faces” of a Barstool sponsored drink called Pirate Water, where he attends golf tournaments, and other events, dressed as a pirate.

He was also in Chicago, interviewing and talking with people in regards to St. Patrick’s day. When asked about his journey and how he overcame many obstacles he had some simple advice.

“Be patient. Do not think you have to have it figured out,” Bahrawy said.
