Spring Semester Plans for SAA

BY AMY MCCARRON

The Student Alumni Association will be looking for a few undergrads to join the group, which is one of Stonehill’s largest clubs on campus.

SAA President Nicole Walsh said current members will soon nominate students who they feel will be a good fit for SAA. Walsh said the E-board, and SAA advisor/director of Alumni Engagement Anne Sant will be on the lookout for nominations later in the spring.

After prospective members are interviewed, the SAA E-board will pick new members for the 2023-2024 school year.

One of the things being discussed when the group met for the first time this semester, is that the group will be looking for nominations for SAA at Donahue Hall Sunday night.

Walsh said SAA will also be holding events on campus this semester such as the Outside of New England Panel, New Grad Panel, Careers Sunday Brunch, and Alumni Easter Egg Hunt.

“The goal of having these events is to get alumni back on campus and help current students, specifically upperclassmen, make connections and find internship and job opportunities. Attending these events is also a good way to get in touch with members of SAA if this is a club you are considering joining,” Walsh said.

About 18 members were at SAA’s first gathering of the spring semester where members caught up with one another while eating dinner and playing games.

Walsh said SAA members will be nominating themselves or other members for next year’s E-board positions which include president, vice president, careers committee chair, administrative coordinator, volunteer coordinator, and public relations person. This will take place toward the end of the semester before interviewing new member nominees.

SAA’s weekly meeting times are Mondays at 9 p.m. Walsh said it is important for the club to consist of members who can attend these meetings as there are important topics discussed each week, such as planning events and reaching out to alumni.

“I always love when we have these SAA dinners that Nicole and Anne put together for us. It’s always a fun bonding time to have outside of our weekly meetings and it really makes the club feel like family. I can’t wait for the fun events and meetings this semester that Nicole talked about tonight,” SAA member Emma Gabel said.
