Sims Soars to 1,000 Points

BY CHLOE TELLER

On January 22, Stonehill Basketball standout Andrew Sims had everyone in Merkert Gymnasium on their feet as he scored a layup making him the 43rd 1,000 point scorer in Stonehill Basketball history.

“For me, going into this game, I felt a ton of different emotions. I was definitely excited. I felt a little bit more pressure going into the game having my friends and family there,” said Sims.

“I’ve been coaching Sims since he was a freshman here at Stonehill. He is a true competitor, he is extremely fierce and plays with a ton of emotion. He is incredibly skilled and as a coach you have the ability to put him on the floor in a variety of places,” said head basketball coach, Chris Kraus.

Sims is a 6’6 forward and has a steady scoring presence, averaging 15.2 points per game. With his dedication and hard work he puts into his game, it is no surprise he hit this milestone.

“For me, it means a lot to join the 1,000 point club. But I truly would not have gotten there if it weren’t for my teammates and coaches having faith in me,” Sims said.

“As a coach, you don’t want to put extra pressure on your player, you want them to play loose and confident and allow it to happen. This is an incredible accomplishment and we are all proud of him,” Kraus said.

Sims’ career point total now sits at 1,095 as the team enters the month of February, ready to take on more competition.
