SGA President Outlines Initiatives for the Year

A new app rollout by the Student Government Association aims to make students aware of what is happening on campus.

The app, Guidebook, is a calendar app where students can see all events happening on campus. The app was rolled out during orientation and is available on the IOS App Store and Google Play Store.

SGA Executive President Naomi Cooper said it was an initiative the SGA’s PR chair, Zach Dangel, has been working on. She said Guidebook is more user-friendly than previous versions of the calendar and that clubs and student organizations are able to advertise their events on the app.

The rollout of Guidebook is just one initiative that SGA has undertaken to improve student life at Stonehill.

“Something else we’re doing is trying to make this dining switch initiative go smoothly and collect student feedback,” Cooper said. “We’re just really meeting with them [Bon Appétit] and trying to help.”

Cooper said there will be emails sent out with opportunities for students to submit feedback about the new dining changes. Students can also contact Dining Services or the SGA directly to express concerns.

Cooper said her goal is to make Stonehill the best place for everyone involved. She described student government as “kind of like student council in high school, but a little more serious.”

“Part of what we do is meeting with deans from the school and discussing issues with them, then we hear from students and try to work through those issues,” she said.

For students looking to get involved with student government, there are numerous committees with open positions. These include the Health and Wellness Committee, the Dining Services Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, and the Housing and Facilities Committee. Anyone on campus can join these committees as a non-voting member.

Cooper also said the Programming Committee is another way to get involved. “Our Programming Chair, Grace Murray, is fantastic. She works with us and the Office of Student Engagement, so students looking to put on events can go through her,” she said.

For those who want to see their student government in action, students can attend SGA General Assembly meetings every Monday from ll:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Meetings are held in room 103 in the Meehan School of Business.
