This year, there has been a frustrating change in Stonehill’s meal plan as Hill Dollars with the base meal plan are now allotted at just $75 -- this is a big shift from previous years where students could use dining funds freely across campus.
The structure of Stonehill’s new dining service limits where and on what students can use their meal plan; because of this, students have been forced to make do with fewer options throughout the day unless they choose to use a “meal swipe” which often comes with restrictions of its own.
For many, this limit has been particularly disappointing at Dunkin’. Last year, when Dunkin was still included in the meal plan, grabbing a coffee or snack was a daily highlight, giving students what they needed to power through hard classes and long days.
Now that Dunkin is taken out of students’ Hill Dollars, and the $75 limit runs out fast, many are left scrambling. This is only compounded by the fact that students’ meal plans allot for just two “swipes” per day.
I believe Stonehill should rethink this limit to better meet students’ needs. The freedom to grab a coffee or snack is more than a convenience—it’s a chance to take a break, recharge, and feel a little more in control of our hectic days.
Increasing the amount of Hill Dollars would not only give students the flexibility we once had but also bring back one of the meal plan’s best qualities.
