Lions, tigers, & Skyhawks, oh my!

With Halloween being less than four weeks away, Stonehill College students are getting their costumes ready for the Halloweekend.

Stonehill College has a lot of events leading up to Halloween, including Haunting at the Hill which is sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement, when the Director of Archives and Historical Collections, Nicole Casper, shares “terrifying tales of Stonehill College.”

However, the real event that Stonehill students look forward to is Halloweekend, when they can go out and dress up as their favorite characters, celebrities, and monsters.

Students need to keep in mind that there are some costumes that should be taken into consideration to not be worn that may be mocking biblical characters.

According to America Magazine, costumes that should not be worn at all, such as a “sexy nun,” include anything that could be seen as disrespectful to religious figures.

Other types of costumes that are typically discouraged at many college,s including Catholic institutions like Stonehill College, are offensive costumes that mock a race or culture.

“Halloween should be fun and there are a bunch of costumes for people to choose from that I feel like there’s no need to do anything that could possibly offend someone,” John Dougherty ‘27.

Since Halloween this year is on a Thursday students are trying to figure out which weekend Halloweenkend should be; the weekend of the 26th or the first weekend of November.

“I feel like it should be on the weekend of the 26th because then it’ll still be in October,” said Isabella Pereira ‘27. “It doesn’t make sense to me to celebrate it in November.”

While most students agree with it being on the weekend of the 26th, others feel as though it would make more sense for it to be the first weekend of November so it can be celebrated as a “long weekend” starting Thursday going into the weekend.

“I think it should be the first weekend of November so then it’s like a four day long thing,” said Kay Wheelock ‘27.

Regardless of what weekend students decide Halloweekend to be on, the different costumes, from princesses, to superheroes, to popular characters, will not disappoint.

“My friends and I are probably going to go as Star Wars characters,” said Ashley Prevett ‘27.

“We’re doing a group costume and being party animals,” said Ella Lund ‘27.

“A bunch of us are going as characters from the TV show “The Boys,” said Max Bishop ‘27.
