EASTON – With their parents thousands of miles away, many international students spent Family Weekend relaxing and connecting with their friends.
“I spend family weekends with my teammates and close friends,” said Anneliese Beltran '26, who is from Mexico.
She said her parents had visited previously, but they had never been able to make it to the official Family Weekend hosted by the school.
Even though they couldn’t be here, she said she liked family weekends.
“All the events and food trucks they bring to campus make it a livelier environment experience,” she said.
Guillaume Duhill De Benaze '25, from France, said he usually spent these dates with his close friends and saw it as a possibility to meet new people.
“The atmosphere is very fun, and everyone is happy,” he said.
Ibrahim Saazi '26, from Uganda, whose parents have never attended, said he normally spent time with his friends and their families. “The majority of my friends host a tailgate where I’m able to spend time with their families and them,” he said.
Saazi said it would be a good idea to have a more inviting situation for international students, like hosting a free lunch.
Alexis Chastang '27, from England, made one suggestion to help international students. “Maybe encouraging local students to look out for their international friends and encouraging them to invite the internationals to join their family for the weekend could help us be more involved.”
However, he said he liked this weekend because it was a good rest period for him.
