The death of Stonehill graduate Sydney Ledoux in a Connecticut car crash in left current students who knew her stunned and grieving.
Her friends remembered her as a caring person who was pursuing a master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology at Emerson College with hopes of attaining a doctorate in audiology.
According to her obituary Sydney was a skilled soccer player, a voracious reader and had a special connection to animals. She had a special connection with her pets, Bailey, Ham, Sophie and Oliver.
Ledoux, 23, from Bolton, CT, was driving a 2016 Ford Escape when the car left its lane and crossed over into the southbound lane for an unknown reason. The car preceded to strike a mailbox and tree. Ledoux was the only person in the car.
Chloe Teller remembered her as a hard worker who was always willing to help others.
“Sydney's commitment to putting others first was truly inspiring. Despite her schedule, she somehow found the time for everyone. Whether offering valuable advice, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, she made a genuine effort to connect with everyone around her. She radiated so much kindness and care,” Teller said.
Ledoux was an RA during her time at Stonehill and connected with many students and other RAs such as Jacqueline Foley.
“I first met Sydney in August of my sophomore year, her senior year, for RA training. Instantly we bonded over our identical major and minor pairing of Biology and Speech Pathology, and as the year progressed, we became inseparable. She took me under her wing and showed me the ropes of the job, the secret tricks to make the best bulletin boards and door tags, and even helped me find what she would call my ‘RA voice,’” said Foley.
Sydney Beaton said she will never forget how friendly Ledoux was.
“Syd was RA freshman year and was overall the sweetest person I ever met. Freshman year was incredibly difficult for me, but Syd was there every step of the way. She was always smiling. She endorsed me to join clubs and make friends and because of that encouragement I found my footing. It's people like her who make Stonehill the place it is,” said Beaton.
Foley and Sydney shared an interest in audiology. Foley said she will continue to pursue her dreams of becoming an audiologist.
“Sydney, I promise to carry out our goal of becoming Audiologists, and I will continue to make you proud,” Foley said.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Sydney’s memory to NEADS World Class Service Dogs or the Bolton Scholarship Fund.
