Here at Stonehill, there are many activities around campus to keep students active and invested outside of class schedules.
Located just outside campus is The Farm. The Farm is a wonderful opportunity for those who feel agriculturally charged to fulfill their love for the outdoors.
There are many opportunities to get involved. Farm Director Laurie Mooney said there are opportunities to both harvest crops and participate in other events.
“The Farm is an incredible opportunity for students to learn all aspects of small-scale sustainable agriculture. From sowing seed to harvesting vegetables, fruits and gathering eggs, the farm is a place where everyone belongs as we bring access to nutrition for our community,” Mooney said.
The Farm has many opportunities for students to get involved.
The Farm hosts events for most occasions at Stonehill, most recently holding a pumpkin painting event and a flower picking event that highlight the Farm’s many features.
If you are looking for something else or to bring along friends, Mooney said “Students have opportunities to volunteer every Friday (during the growing season March – November) from 2-4 p.m. We call it Farm Fridays,” she said.
You may have heard the term Farm Fridays around campus or seen it in your email inbox; this is what your classmates are talking about!
Although for some this is just a hobby, if you are looking for some long-term involvement, there is the opportunity to do an internship or work-study program with The Farm.
“Students also have work-study and internship opportunities during the summer,” Mooney said.
If you have an extra hour or two on your next available Friday, stop by The Farm and learn something new about the outdoors. Feel free to reach out to the Farm Director, Laurie Mooney, with questions at farm@stonehill.edu.
