In the middle of a winter snowstorm, it is never ideal for students to walk across campus navigating icy sidewalks and falling flurries. Yet, for commuters like Caleb Tobin, the ordeal escalates to an even harder task: driving to campus.
“I prefer to not have to drive to campus if it is snowing heavily outside,” Tobin said.
The highways tend to be slippery, and unsafe drivers on the road can be extremely dangerous to commuters. Tobin questioned whether it was a smart decision to drive onto campus from home, with word spreading about a storm rolling in early this week.
“People usually act very stupid on the road, and it is very chaotic. If Stonehill does not cancel classes, I have a lot to think about,” said Tobin.
Luckily, classes were canceled for students the night before the snowfall of January 13, 2024. Tobin, along with many other commuters on campus, was able to plan accordingly to avoid the slippery roads.
Tobin said he would not have risked it for class, and if he didn’t feel safe driving, he would have stayed at home.
