After a week of waiting, the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Committee released the six teams that will be competing in the 2021 Championship round.
There are six teams total from the Atlantic and East Regions, three from each. The first pick from the Atlantic Region is Shippensburg Univeristy in Pa., who has an overall record of 18-0. The other two picks are West Chester University and East Stroudsburg University, both who have final records of 15-4.
The Eastern Region first pick is Assumption College, who has an overall record of 20-1. Bentley University comes next with an overall record of 14-5, and Aldephi University not far behind them with an overall record of 14-6.
Stonehill ended their season with an overall record of 13-5.
The conference will begin on Saturday, November 13, at locations to be determined, as Shippensburg and Assumption have first round byes. There will be a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday between Bently and East Stroudsburg; the winner will verse Shippensburg in a semi-final matchup.
West Chester and Adelphi will also play on Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Chester’s home field. The winner will play Assumption.
Semi-final's will be held on November 19 with games at 2 and 5 p.m. Millersville University will host the teams at their home field, Biemesderfer Stadium, in Pa. They will also host the final game on November 21 at 1 p.m.
Abby Campbell, goalie of Stonehill’s team, said it was heartbreaking to hear on the live stream that the team was not selected.
“Although a bittersweet ending to our senior season, I would not have changed the past four years I’ve been able to have with Stonehill Field Hockey,” she said. “I wish the best for all the years to come for the program.
Selection was announced today at 3 p.m. on NCAA.com.
