Blizzard break-in

BY JAKE ZABSKI

Early Sunday morning after a blizzard swept through dumping almost two feet of snow on campus, several Bogan Hall common spaces were vandalized.

From shattered windows to the window screens being torn down, many residents awoke to their floor common spaces wrecked.

An investigation was launched by Campus Police on Sunday, and found that the person responsible for the damage was not a Stonehill student and has since been removed and restricted from campus.

Even though the individual was not a student, the individual was still able to gain access to Bogan Hall.

Bridget O’Brien, Resident Director of Bogan Hall and Notre Dame Du Lac told residents that the individual poses no risk to the safety of Bogan Hall residents and that Campus Police is aware of how the individual was able to enter the building. She said that this does not pose any future concerns.

Sophie Owens is a Senior who lives on the fifth floor of Bogan Hall. Her room is directly next to the common area that had its windows broken.

“I recall hearing a heavy object being thrown around the hallway, and some glass shattering too,” Owens said.

Owens said that she remembers being half asleep and was not able to figure out if it was a sort of dream or reality, so she chose to remain in her bed instead of investigating the noise.

Owens recalls the next morning seeing that it was the common room with the pool table, and thought the pool balls were thrown at the windows causing them to break based on the appearance of the windows and the size of the holes in the glass.

Knowing that it was the room right next door to her bedroom made Owens particularly anxious.

“It made me anxious that it was right next door, especially since I was in the room by myself. Since the door to my room goes directly into the hallway, I think that could have made me an easy target had my door not been locked,” Owens said.

Jasmine Santos, a Senior Resident Assistant of Bogan Hall, said that she was not on duty the night of the incident, but assures residents that the situation is under control. She said that any of the Bogan Hall RA’s are available to provide extra support to residents during this time.

Santos could not provide details about what happened due to privacy reasons, but assured that everyone involved is okay and the situation has been dealt with.

Santos encourages students in the future to reach out for help if they see anything concerning.

“If a resident sees anything or hears anything that may be concerning, please call the duty phone or campus police. If you fear for anything it is better to be proactive than reactive,” Santos said.

Bogan Hall residents who notice anything concerning in the future are encouraged to call the RA duty phone number (508-965-6989 for Bogan Hall/Du Lac), Campus Police (508-565-5100 standard non-emergency), or the emergency Campus Police number (508-565-5555) for help.
