Study season at Stonehill

BY JORDYN FORTE

With the end of the fall semester rapidly approaching, finals season is just around the corner.

And, as an especially stressful period of time for students, Stonehill has a number of resources available for those who may need them.

Students, for example, are able to book study rooms in the MacPhaidin Library if they need a quiet place to escape from barking dogs or noisy roommates while trying to prepare for their exams.

Trish McPherson, MacPhaidin’s Information Literacy and Outreach librarian, recommends that students book study rooms soon if they would like to utilize them.

“Study rooms tend to be in very high demand during the period of time leading up to finals and during finals as well,” McPherson said.

Students can book study rooms up to two weeks in advance and for a maximum of two hours per day; to do so, students just visit https://libcal.stonehill.edu/ spaces and select a time, date, and location.

If students need a quiet place with a computer to complete a final project, they are also welcome to visit the third floor computer lab.

“Many people who have to work on a computer find it more conducive to concentration to work in that lab as opposed to in the lab on the first floor,” McPherson said, noting how the third floor’s silence is beneficial to those looking to study and focus.

In addition to housing study rooms and other quiet study spaces, the MacPhaidin Library also has a number of other resources available to students as well, namely the librarians.

“A lot of people don’t know that they can schedule one-on-one appointments with myself or with one of the other librarians if they’re having any difficulty with research or if they have questions about citations,” McPherson said.

There are appointments available throughout the day and into the evening, and students are able to schedule them by visiting https://libcal.stonehill.edu/.

“We just want to stress that there’s no need for students to stress or feel frustrated if they’re having trouble,” McPherson said. “We’re more than happy to work one-on-one with any student who needs help, and we are here to give them whatever support they may need.”

In MacPhaidin’s library of things, there is also a variety of stress reduction and productivity-related items, such as noise cancelling headphones and HappyLight desk lamps.

“Take care of yourself,” McPherson said, “and, take advantage of every opportunity that’s available to you for help, whether it’s here in the library, in the CWAA, or somewhere else.
