Rochelle Ryan: Lieutenant, Civil Rights Officer, and, now, Acting Police Chief

By Jordyn Forte

Stonehill College’s first Civil Rights Officer, Lieutenant Rochelle Ryan, has been named acting police chief while the College searches for a replacement following Chief Wordell’s resignation.

Ryan, a Stonehill alumni, began her law enforcement career in 1989, working as a police officer with the Weymouth Police Department for six years.

Ryan then joined the Stonehill College Police Department (SCPD) in 2002.

In 2019, Ryan was then promoted to lieutenant for Patrol and Investigative Services.

As a lieutenant, she now oversees all investigations and manages patrol services for the department, while also acting as a liaison for the SCPD for matters regarding Conference and Events and assets in the planning of large events.

“We will continue to provide updates to the community on the appointment of a permanent Chief,” Vice President for Finance, Jeanne Finlayson, said previously in her email to faculty and staff.
